Caring for your jewelry

A few things to help you keep your new piece of jewelry looking great…

When you aren’t wearing your jewelry, keep it in a clean ziplock bag. (Throw in a silver strip if you have one.) Before putting it away, wipe off of any lotions, oils, or perfumes.

If you use liquid jewelry cleaners make sure they are safe for gemstones, especially opals and pearls. If you’ve bought a piece with ebony in it, clean only the silver areas carefully with a soft jewelry cleaning cloth. Ebony is wood so avoid submerging it in any liquids or water. Wiping off the ebony with a slightly damp, soft cloth is great.

A bit about tarnish: you may know that tarnish is the oxidation process that happens when moisture in the air meets silver. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with letting areas of your jewelry patina naturally. Keeping the high points polished with a cloth is a great way to add depth to the piece.
